Iron Deficiency Practice Resource – The IWK has developed a guide for care providers in NS to assist with the management of iron deficiency in preterm infants. This resource is intended to support clinical practice - Expert Consensus Statement on Prevention and Management of Iron Deficiency in Preterm Infants for Practitioners in the Maritimes. The resource can be found on the RCP website as well as on the IWK Health website.


Updated Rh Program Resources – The Rh Program of Nova Scotia has updated the following resources. They can be accessed on the Rh Program of NS website.


NS Influenza & COVID-19 Immunization Campaigns - The 2022/23 Influenza and COVID-19 Immunization Program is underway and to help Nova Scotia immunization providers, a memo has been released from Dr. Ryan Sommers, Senior Regional Medical Officer of Health and Senior Medical Director Public Health, Nova Scotia Health. The memo is posted to the RCP website.


Diabetic Ketoacidosis in Pregnancy Webinar - The webinar Diabetic Ketoacidosis in Pregnancy is a collaboration from members of the IWK Obstetrical Diabetes Working Group and is presented by Dr. Jillian Coolen, IWK Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist. The Working Group developed the webinar for care providers as a resource to guide care regarding antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum management of diabetes, with a focus on the identification and management of diabetic ketoacidosis. Induction of Labour Video

The IWK has created a new patient education video related to induction of labour. The video has been posted to YouTube and can be accessed here.


The Canadian Paediatric Society Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Research Grants – Submissions are being accepted for the following research grants:

  • NRP Research Grant (up to $25,000 CDN)
  • Emerging Investigator Award (up to $5,000 CDN)

FASD NL 2023 Conference Call for Abstracts – The FASD NL 2023 Conference is currently accepting abstracts, presentations, and posters/table sessions in the following areas related to health, health equity and/or the social determinants of health for the 2023 conference. The conference theme is titled: Reducing Harms in Atlantic Communities: Synthesizing Voices in Health Equity, FASD, and Trauma. To register click here.


PHAC’s Breastfeeding Dashboard - The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) is pleased to announce the release of new data products on breastfeeding. Canada’s “Breastfeeding Dashboard” is now available on PHAC’s Public Health Infobase platform. Along with this data tool, the first edition of Canada’s Breastfeeding Progress Report is available. The data provides an overview of breastfeeding rates in Canada, including information on breastfeeding initiation, duration and exclusivity, examined by various geographic and sociodemographic factors. Reasons for not breastfeeding and reasons for stopping breastfeeding before 6 months are also presented, as are rates of vitamin D supplementation of breastfed infants. SOGC Interim Guidance on Monkeypox Exposure for Pregnant People – The Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada has updated practice guidance related to Monkeypox exposure in pregnancy. The statement can be accesses here.
