The Nova Scotia Atlee Perinatal Database (NSAPD) is a comprehensive, population-based resource that has been collecting detailed clinical and demographic data across the province since 1988. This unique database is built on data abstracted on-site by health information professionals in health care facilities throughout Nova Scotia. These facilities contribute their data to the NSAPD, which is managed by the Reproductive Care Program (RCP), a program of IWK Health, serving as its custodian.
The RCP maintains strict data management policies that ensure the confidentiality of information in the NSAPD. Please refer to the frequently asked questions and brochure on privacy for details.
Hospitals receive regular reports that describe mortality, morbidity and selected outcomes for their population. Provincial reports that include demographic, intervention and outcome data are produced periodically.
For details about data elements that are captured in the database, please refer to the coding manual. The publications listing cites research uses of the database since 1990.
