The Reproductive Care Program of Nova Scotia (RCP) offers the Acute Care of the at-Risk Newborn (ACoRN) education program for both providers and instructors. ACoRN is designed to be an interdisciplinary education program and is open to all health care providers caring for neonates.
ACoRN is a program developed by the Canadian Pediatric Society to teach a systematic approach for stabilization, assessment and care of babies who are unwell or at-risk of becoming unwell in the first few hours or days following birth. The ACoRN process builds on the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) as guidance for the next steps in care following a resuscitation.
The ACoRN Provider program involves two components:
- Successful completion of the ACoRN online exam.
- Participation in a simulation based in-person ACoRN provider workshop.
Ongoing renewal of education should occur every two years with completion of the two components outlined above.

- ACoRN is a Nationally Accredited program and offers Continuing Professional Development Credits for specialist physicians, family physicians, respiratory therapists, nurses and midwives in line with their accrediting bodies.
