RCP attends the Canadian Perinatal Programs Coalition (CPPC) Summit – This past October the Canadian Perinatal Programs Coalition (CPPC) Summit was held in Halifax. Many representatives from RCP attended the summit. It was a great opportunity to network, learn about what other perinatal programs across Canada are doing, and share initiatives that RCP is leading/involved in here in NS.


Kudos to the Rh Program Nurses – Congratulations to Marg Parsons and Erin Dowe, Rh Nurse Coordinators with the Rh Program of NS for their valuable contribution in co-authoring a journal article published in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Canada (JOGC) (Volume 47, Issue 9) - Guidance for Prenatal, Postnatal and Neonatal Immunohematology Testing in Canada: Consensus Recommendations from a Modified Delphi Process.

 


RCP 2026 FHS Workshops – RCP is hosting a virtual Fetal Health Surveillance (FHS) Workshop in February and March of 2026. The workshop is offered over 4 x 4.5-hour sessions. Please note that attendance at all four sessions is mandatory.

RSV Resources – The Provincial Council for Maternal and Child Health (PCMCH) has developed several free patient / family resources regarding RSV prevention for infants and high-risk children. These resources are accessible from the PCMCH website and available in a number of languages including English, French, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Arabic, Punjabi and Spanish.

The Interprovincial Violence Against Women (IPV) Project – The Interprovincial Violence Against Women Project is a mixed-methods study that aims to identify and mobilize knowledge around best practices for preventing and responding to violence against women (VAW), during and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic across Canadian provinces. In developing our understanding of the state of the social and healthcare response to VAW and best practices, we seek to account for differences in regions and population groups. Sunnybrook Pregnancy & Infant Loss Network – The Pregnancy and Infant Loss (PAIL) Network are a leading Canadian source of educational resources and materials for healthcare professionals, caregivers, clergy and funeral directors on how to be a therapeutic presence with a family at the time of their loss and in the days and weeks that lie ahead. Their focus is dedicated to improving bereavement care and providing support to families who have suffered the loss of a pregnancy or the death of their baby/babies. PAIL is a provincial program that operates as a part of the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Their website provides many free resources intended to support both care providers and families.


Physician Breastfeeding Guide – Interior Health in British Columbia have developed the Physician Breastfeeding Guide; a breastfeeding resource aimed at supporting family physicians, obstetrician-gynecologists and paediatricians, midwives, nurse practitioners and other  care providers. The goal of the new Guide is to enhance involvement of physicians in breastfeeding care, and to increase their role as advocates. It is user-friendly with charts, photographs and graphics. The Guide addresses prenatal, 0-72 hours after birth, and postnatal concerns. It has the latest information about breastfeeding and is a needed advocacy tool to enhance physician involvement in breastfeeding care. To access the new Guide click here.


Early Pregnancy Loss QI Survey - Midwifery researchers at McMaster University are looking to gather QI data related to early pregnancy loss across Canada. The group is interested in collaborative care and Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinics given the new SOGC guidelines recommending this model. The survey will take 2-3 minutes to complete. Smart Parent Pilot Extended - The SmartParent pilot program has been extended for an additional year. SmartParent is a free evidence-based text messaging program that sends information to support a healthy pregnancy and birth, timed and tailored to the specific stage of pregnancy. Please continue to support the pilot extension in sharing details of this valuable prenatal resource with colleagues, patients, and families. Additional information is available for parents on the IWK website and for care providers on the SmartParent website. SmartParent also provides posters which can be downloaded and posted in public spaces and online. Please encourage your perinatal patients and clients to sign up for SmartParent so they can benefit from the information shared throughout this transformational time in their lives. Enrollment can be completed by texting the keyword ‘Baby’ to 12323 or by going to www.smartparent.ca and clicking ‘Enroll Now’.
