RCP/Rh Anniversary Webinar Series – RCP would like to extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who was able to join us live for the 50th RCP & 60th Rh Program Anniversary Celebration Webinar Series on November 27 – December 1, 2023. Recordings of the week’s webinars can be found posted on the RCP website for your ongoing viewing.

Updated Rh Program Guidance Document - The Rh Program of Nova Scotia has recently updated their guidance document - Paternal/Donor Blood Typing in Pregnancy. This resource will make it easier for clinicians to order paternal/donor testing when following pregnant individuals who are Rh negative or have antibodies that cause hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN). It is available under updates on the RCP/Rh Program website.

CPS Online learning - RSV infections - The Canadian Pediatric Society has recently updated their online module to include information about the use of nirsevimab to prevent severe lower respiratory tract infection caused by RSV. This module will help health care providers to:

  • Describe best practices in RSV diagnosis and management.
  • Assess when hospitalization may be necessary.
  • Provide family education and support.

Live Virtual Breastfeeding Conference – The Alberta Breastfeeding Committee presents a live virtual breastfeeding conference for healthcare professionals - Optimizing Breastfeeding Success, January 26, 2024, from 0845-1630 (MST)

This conference focusses on common barriers to breastfeeding and how healthcare professionals can help patients meet their breastfeeding goals. Join four incredible speakers to learn more about:

  • Supporting informed decision making around infant feeding.
  • How supporting BFI principles can help families.
  • Predictors of exclusive breastfeeding and
  • How to support breastfeeding after birth trauma.

The conference will conclude with a panel of parents sharing their experiences with breastfeeding and the health care system to enhance learning. Nurses, physicians, midwives, lactation professionals, birth workers, and all frontline healthcare workers are welcome to attend this day of professional development! It provides a digital information hub and research network offering evidence-based information to the public and health care providers on the safety of medications, plant and environmental substances and other exposures during pregnancy and lactation.

The vision of First Exposure is to be Canada’s trusted bilingual source of evidence-based reproductive and lactation health information on exposures. Their mission is to evaluate and communicate the safety of medication and substance exposures in an accessible way to individuals and communities, so they can make informed choices within their own, unique, and culturally safe contexts.
