This webinar will explore hyperbilirubinemia in the newborn. It is designed to help healthcare providers learn through case-based scenarios, detecting and managing hyperbilirubinemia in the newborn reflective of the latest Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS) guidelines.
Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
• Summarize the key changes to the CPS Guidelines on detection and management of hyperbilirubinemia in term and late preterm newborns (≥35 weeks gestational age).
• Apply the updated CPS guidelines to neonatal patients in the context of the postnatal ward.
• Outline appropriate outpatient management for newborns with hyperbilirubinemia.
Speaker Bio: Dr. Simpson is the Head of the Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at Dalhousie University and Medical Director of the NICU at IWK Health. He obtained his undergraduate medical training at Queen’s University and completed his Pediatric Residency at Dalhousie University. His subspecialty training was split between the University of Toronto and Dalhousie University. He subsequently completed a Master of Education in Curriculum Studies for Health Interprofessionals through Acadia University. He is a former Residency Program Director, and the current Vice Chair of the RCPSC Special Committee for Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. He is also an instructor for the Acute Care of at-Risk Newborns (ACoRN) program.
