Fetal Health Surveillance

The Reproductive Care Program of Nova Scotia (RCP) offers fetal health surveillance workshops based on the FHS-SBF Canada Fetal Health Surveillance Education Program. The program has been developed by the FHS-SBF Canada Steering Committee to offer a national standardized approach to fetal health surveillance education that aligns with SOGC’s FHS Clinical Practice Guideline.

The FHS-SBF Canada Fetal Health Surveillance (FHS) education model involves 2 components:

  1. Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Fetal Health Surveillance Online Manual AND FHS-SBF Canada Exam,
  2. Participation in one of the following interactive in-person or virtual workshops:
    • Fundamentals of Fetal Health Surveillance Workshop - an 8-hour interdisciplinary workshop intended for staff who are new to FHS, students or residents working in intrapartum care areas, perinatal care providers who received their training or previously practiced outside of Canada, or any care provider responsible for FHS who has never had the opportunity to participate in formal FHS education.
    • Fetal Health Surveillance Refresher Workshop - a 4-hour interdisciplinary workshop focused on the application of FHS principles and standards through case based learning, offered for all staff who are responsible for FHS as part of their role. Canadian Professional Associations (SOGC, CAPWHN, CAM) recommend that providers renew their education at a minimum frequesncy of every two years.
