Standardized approach to testing for Rh indeterminate women

The Rh Program of Nova Scotia has collaborated with the Nova Scotia Provincial Blood Coordinating Program (NSPBCP) to standardize care for pregnant women whose Rh status is indeterminate. While care standards have long been in place for the majority of women whose Rh status is clearly known, the new standard recommends enhanced testing for the small number of women in the indeterminate category (up to 1 percent) and allows Nova Scotia doctors to determine more precisely which patients need Rh immune globulin to avoid the risk of red cell isoimmunization (Rh disease). The guideline is available from the Rh Program and is being distributed by DoctorsNS.
